A master print maker in our midst David Driesbach has had many titles during his life – artist, teacher, exhibitor, father and grandfather, but he views his role as an artist in a slightly different light. “I see myself as a storyteller,” said David. “Each of my pieces has a unique story.” An innovator in printmaking techniques, David has more than 500 pieces in museums and private collections and has won more than 200 prizes in competition. In his academic career, he has shared his love and knowledge of art with the next generation of artists. A former art professor at Northern Illinois University, David has taught at five different colleges and universities over a 41-year career. He was also awarded the very competitive and coveted Presidential Research Professorship in 1982 for his accomplishments as an artist on the national and international exhibition circuits. A recent Wyndemere resident, David actively pursues his passion. “I'm at the studio nearly every day,” said David, who is delighted that Wheaton College has made an arrangement with him which allows the use of their equipment and materials needed to produce his unique and innovative pieces. Throughout his career, he has displayed his artwork at galleries all across the country. But not one to rest on his laurels, David is planning another show in DeKalb in early 2006. “It has always been a ‘fun thing’ to approach a blank sheet of copper with only the vaguest idea of what I'll be doing with it to see another adventure happen,” said David. | |||
