Making each event something to celebrate

It’s the little touches that make events extra special. When Wyndemere residents attend parties or holiday events, they can look forward to the creative touch of Manager of Catering Mary Wallace, to make the event one to remember.

“ I can really let my creative spirit soar here,” said Mary. Her favorite events to decorate are holiday celebrations, from Christmas to Easter to Mother’s Day. “For Christmas, I include many types of poinsettias, a decorated step ladder and of course, Santa Claus!” Mary also enjoys recognizing milestone birthdays for residents. “I really do our 90th birthday celebrations up right, bringing in huge number balloons to celebrate the occasion,” she said.

Mary’s interest in decorating began early by decorating for family parties. She even learned to make her own silk flowers. Mary came to Wyndemere five years ago, with a catering background honed at Wheaton College and Alexian Brothers Hospital. “I love my job,” said Mary. “The residents are wonderful and it’s like working right in their home.”

A mother of two and grandmother to one, Mary enjoys decorating on her off hours for family, but balances that passion with her other hobby. “I love to bowl,” said Mary.

At Wyndemere, Mary’s creativity makes each event a special one. “I've even helped to create a bridal shower for one of our resident’s daughters,” she said. Wyndemere’s beautiful dining room, foyer or patio can be easily transformed to fit any occasion. Whether it’s a holiday theme or a summer BBQ, Mary’s attention to detail really makes the difference. “When I'm done setting up for an event, the residents are already asking me what’s coming up next!” said Mary.
