Wyndemere:  A community of diverse artists

Where would you expect to find some international and locally renowned artists?  Why at the Wyndemere Senior Living Campus, of course!  Recently, more than 25 artisans who happen to call Wyndemere their home, shared their life-long love of art in an exhibition and open house.

The exhibition featured a diverse selection of media including printmaking, oil painting, water colors, silver jewelry, woodcarving, braided rugs, quilting, knitting and other  needlework.  The participating Wyndemere artists ranged from those who have dedicated their careers to art, such as David Dreiesbach, a printmaker and exhibiting artist since 1949, to those who have honed skills learned long ago, such as Louise Daleiden, a member of the Wyndemere Quilting Group. The Group’s creations are donated to local charitable organizations.

One of the Wyndemere artists, Alice Street, has painted for more than 80 years.  Using oils and watercolors, she painted both landscapes and portraits.  “I really enjoyed seeing the work of my fellow residents.  It was amazing,” said Alice, who had once had an exhibition of her paintings and her husband’s photography at Cantigny.

Displayed in an artistic setting that featured a chamber music trio as well as artfully displayed hors d’oeuvres and an ice sculpture of Michelangelo’s David, the Wyndemere Art Exhibition was the backdrop for the talent found in this community.

“There’s such a great cultural richness at Wyndemere,” said Randalynn Kaye, Director of Sales and Marketing.  “The exhibition was a great opportunity for residents to not only share their past work with each other, but also to give them a sneak preview of their latest projects.”
